According to the Federal Office of Public Health (FOPH), Switzerland is in the middle of a wave of Covid-19. Listed since August, it strengthened in November. The most recent figures indicate a further increase.

Currently, SARS-CoV2 is circulating the most in Switzerland, followed by rhinoviruses, RS viruses and influenza, the OFSP tells Keystone-ATS. Concerning the flu, we are observing the start of an epidemic, specifies the office. Outpatient consultations in Switzerland and Liechtenstein indicate an increase in respiratory infections since the start of the season, specifies the FOPH on its information portal on communicable diseases.

Six times more proven cases of covid than flu

Mandatory reporting of positive laboratory results for influenza is still at a low level, but is increasing significantly. Data refers to the week of November 18 to 24.

Extrapolated out of 100,000 people, 160 people requested a consultation over this period for an acute respiratory infection and 90 for a flu illness. The National Influenza Reference Center reports 45 laboratory-proven cases of Covid-19 over a week, compared to 7 cases of flu. Most of these confirmed cases are in Ticino and French-speaking Switzerland.
