The American central bank will begin the last meeting of its monetary policy committee of the year this Tuesday with crucial information in its pocket: consumer price figures for the month of November. On Friday, the employment report indicated that the increase in average hourly wages had remained at 4% year-on-year.

The consensus formed by Bloomberg expects inflation to stagnate at 0% over one month and for a slowdown to 3.1% over one year following 3.2% in October. In core data, i.e. excluding food and energy, the rise in prices should have accelerated to 0.3% over one month, following +0.2%, but to have remained at 4% over one year, its lowest level since March.

Towards a moderation of inflation

« The drop in gasoline prices continued throughout the month of November. Partial data also suggests a further decline in the price of used cars », note the economists at Oddo BHF. They add that “ the underlying index was surprisingly weak in October. The latest surveys were rather mixed, the Beige Book signaled a slowdown, the labor market is slowly returning to normal. At first glance, this points more in the direction of a moderation of inflation “. The statistic will be published at 2:30 p.m.

In the morning, the market will have taken note at 11 a.m. of the ZEW index of the sentiment of German investors and analysts for the month of December. It is expected to have contracted 1 point to 8.8 following reaching its best level since April the previous month. Before then, the Office for National Statistics (ONS) will have released UK unemployment figures. A slowdown is anticipated to 7.6% year-on-year for the three months to the end of October, following 7.9% in September.

On the corporate front, Figeac will present its first half results, then Crypto Blockchain Industries and Entech their accounts for the first half of 2023-2024. Séché Environnement will unveil its new strategic plan.
