O Time Machine is the native macOS system for making backups of data stored on your Mac. With it, you can keep a copy of your documents, photos, videos and other files that are extremely important to you.
Unlike iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch backups, which are stored in the cloud (via iCloud), Mac backups necessarily need an external storage device to do so.
Despite being very simple to use, Time Machine may not always work properly. So, check out some tips below on how to solve the main problems with it! ????️
- Make sure the external storage disk to be used for backup is properly connected to your Mac.
- Make sure your Mac is updated to the latest version of macOS. Remember, however, that backups created in macOS Monterey or later can only be restored to a computer running macOS Big Sur or a newer version.
- Restart your Mac and try backing up your data once more.
- Turn off iCloud Drive and turn it back on. To do this, open System Settings, click on your name (in the top left corner of the screen), go to iCloud » iCloud Driveturn this off and choose “Keep a Copy” or “Remove from Mac” if you prefer.
- Repair the external disk used for the backup using macOS’s built-in Disk Utility.
- Format the disk and try once more. If it is an SSD (and not an HDD), it is recommended format it in APFS.
- Verify that the disk used for such activity is compatible with Time Machine backups.
- Try using another external storage drive to back up your data.
We hope these tips help you make a successful backup! ????
