2024 SBB Timetable: Improved Service with Direct Connections to Tourist Destinations

2023-12-10 11:37:00

The new 2024 SBB timetable came into force on Sunday without any major problems. It offers better service to tourist destinations such as Valais or Graubünden, but also additional direct connections on weekends from Geneva to Chur via Zurich and in the opposite direction.

At midday, the CFF drew an initial positive assessment of the timetable change implemented in the early hours of the day. No issues specific to the new schedule have been reported

However, it is only the resumption of traffic on a working day on Monday which will show whether the new rail links enjoy a favorable response from commuters, specify the CFF.

Four direct connections between Geneva and Chur

From this Sunday, four direct connections spread over the entire day will run on weekends between Geneva and Chur. The company had already introduced two direct connections during the last change a year ago.

In Valais, in order to connect to the new IC6s in the morning and evening, a RegionAlps connection is set up earlier, every day of the week. The two Verbier Express and VosAlpes Express trains are renewed for the 2023-2024 winter season.

Improvement in Broye

In the canton of Vaud, Broye customers will now benefit from a train every 30 minutes between Palézieux and Payerne on Sundays as well. Also note that, by decision of the Federal Transport Office, the name of regional trains is changing from the letter S to the letter R in several French-speaking cantons.

Furthermore, from Sunday until July 7, Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays, and for a pilot phase, two RegioExpress Neuchâtel-Frasne (RE9) trains are extended from/to Bern. This route therefore offers an alternative travel between Bern and Paris, with a change in Frasne.
