Mainly local trees on Vienna’s Christmas tree market stands
Vienna (OTS) – Every year: Around 400,000 Christmas trees are sold in Vienna during the Christmas season. This year it also starts on Tuesday, December 12th at a total of 261 locations in Vienna, daily from 8 a.m. to a maximum of 8 p.m.
“With the large number of possible Christmas tree market places in Vienna, the market office guarantees that enough trees can be offered to all Viennese. In any case, demand is covered,” emphasizes market office director Andreas Kutheil.
The market office regulates the annual allocation of space at the Christmas tree marketplaces and checks the pricing and compliance with the approved stand size.
The selection of trees ranges from local fir to Danish spruce. In Vienna the fir is preferred because of its strong color and relatively blunt needles. The Christmas trees on the stands in Vienna mainly come directly from local producers. As in the previous year, a domestic fir can be expected to cost between 10 and 35 euros per meter. A blue spruce is expected to be slightly more expensive than last year, costing between 10 and 25 euros.
A tip to ensure that the Christmas tree is crisp and green on Christmas Eve: If possible, the conifer should be kept outdoors following purchase or bought shortly before December 24th and placed in a container with water. If you use real candles, you should only light them for the first few days and never leave the tree unattended, as experience has shown that the risk of fire is very high.
