Dylan Larkin Injury: Red Wings vs Senators Game Update

2023-12-10 05:02:00

A frightening scene occurred early in the game between the Ottawa Senators and the Detroit Red Wings when Dylan Larkin collapsed to the ground following receiving a blow to the head from Mathieu Joseph.

Larkin remained on the ground, inert and unconscious, for many seconds. Medical services quickly rushed to his side, but Larkin was able to get to his knees before being escorted off the ice by his teammates. While falling, Larkin also appeared to be hit in the head by Parker Kelly.

The Red Wings said Larkin is still under observation by the team’s medical team and will not return to the game.

“Obviously it was a very scary situation because he was knocked unconscious, but he was able to get back up on his own,” Red Wings coach Derek Lalonde said. “There is no further news, it is still being evaluated. »

“I ended up seeing him still and you obviously never want to see that. It was pretty scary and I hope he’s okay,” said Senators goaltender Joonas Korpisalo, who earned the 100th victory of his career.

In response, David Perron received a game misconduct following double-checking the head of Artem Zub, who also remained on the ground before returning to the bench. Perron was punished for trying to injure his opponent.

The Senators dominated the clash 5 to 1 thanks to goals from Claude Giroux, Vladimir Tarasenko, Dominik Kubalik, Tim Stützle and Jake Sanderson.

In the defeat, Patrick Kane scored his first goal in a Red Wings uniform during a power play. The “88” made a zone entry on the right wing, before letting go of a wrist shot which deceived Joonas Korpisalo.

Alex Lyon gave up four goals on 25 shots before giving way to James Reimer for the third period. The veteran goalie stopped all 11 shots aimed at him.

Joseph and Larkin had already experienced an incident on October 14, 2021 while the Quebecer was playing for the Tampa Bay Lightning. Joseph then hit Larkin from behind and the Red Wings forward responded with a violent punch as the play continued.
