This Sunday, December 10, several hundred runners will take part in the Sully-sur-Loire Marathon of Hope for the benefit of the Telethon. This 10th edition is the last.

It’s almost the end of a charity and solidarity event. The 10th edition of the marathon of hope in Sully-sur-Loire scheduled for this Sunday, December 10 is the last. The reasons for this stop are numerous. “We had a great adventure that allowed us to meet fantastic people. But we have also aged 10 years, explain the organizers, Éliane and Jean-Louis Couvet. The organization is heavy, very heavy. Many key positions are held by people who want to quit. Organization costs have increased since the Covid years and the number of registrants has fallen (Editor’s note: from 1,200 runners in 2015 to 650 last year) and the harvest for the AFM Téléthon as well”. More than 500 runners are registered.

157,000 euros raised in nine editions

For the latter, the organizers want this race to be even more festive, joyful and united than previous editions. They are once once more counting on their trademark, namely: an atmosphere conducive to the telethon, an excess for the sick “who do not have the chance to move freely” and sometimes capricious weather mixing wind and rain. Concerning the marathon, participants will be able to challenge it solo, in pairs and in teams (3 to 5 teammates) on a course identical to past years, always with an arrival in the park of the Château de Sully-sur-Loire. For those who prefer to walk, a 5 km hike is also planned.

In 2022, the event made it possible to donate 11,500 euros to the AFM Téléthon. In total, in nine editions, the marathon of hope has collected 157,000 euros from this association. Objective on the latter? Cross the threshold of 175,000 euros, or even more. And thus close in a beautiful way this event which will have stood out for 10 years in the Loire region landscape.
