The UNCo University Assembly already has the list of topics that will be debated on March 12 and 13, 2024. Among other topics that will be discussed are the declaration of the university as intercultural, adding the gender and environmental perspective to its Statute and other modifications and updates.
The University Assembly is a another co-government body of the National University of Comahue. Its powers include suspending the rector or vice-rector for justified cause or resolving his resignation, deciding on the creation, suppression and division of powers and modifying the Statute.
The last two issues were the subject of debate in yesterday’s session. The project to divide the Roca faculty into two: one of Law and the other of Social Sciences was rejected by the body. While the proposals for the hierarchy of the two were approved settlements of Zapala and San Martín de los Andes.
«If the projects are approved in the University Assembly, both will become Regional Centers, while the Higher School of Marine Sciences, the other unit with a new category, will be transformed into a Faculty. The session started at noon and the second place on the agenda was the proposal for the university to be declared intercultural, with gender and environmental perspective. The debate did not require further debate and was approved unanimously. If the Assembly approves it in March, the UNCo It will become the first house of intercultural higher studies in Argentina.
“We are regarding to make history at the University and in Argentina with the declaration of interculturality. “We are regarding to innovate and expand the horizon of rights in a context where the dominant discourse that is coming speaks of mutilating, cutting off and adjusting,” said rector Beatriz Gentile in her opening speech of the extraordinary session.
“The National University of Comahue recognizes Interculturality as a relationship to be built within the framework of social, cultural and linguistic diversity. Relationships within the University, and between it and the community, are oriented towards the reciprocity of knowledge, knowledge and learning. It recognizes interculturality in the desirable relationships between cultures and turns it into an ethical-political project that offers an alternative to the asymmetric and unequal relationships created historically and present in current reality,” is expressed in the foundations of the project that will reach the Assembly. Gender and environment, two views that will be formalized
If the University Assembly approves it, the National University of Comahue will incorporate the gender and environmental perspective into its Statute. Yesterday the proposal obtained all the positive votes of the councilors.
In the first point, the project clarifies that “the institutionalization of the various theoretical and practical efforts that have been carried out in order to mitigate inequalities and situations of violence within the institution, but also from the recognition of its historical role in the processes of cultural transformation, as a contribution to the general social process.”
It must be remembered that UNCo is the first university in the country to incorporate within its institutions the “Institutional intervention protocol for complaints regarding situations of sexist violence” and one of the first to join the Micaela Law.
The environmental perspective It seeks to give a formal framework to the work that is already being promoted with projects aimed at mitigating the effects of climate change and providing proposals to improve the quality of people in their relationship with the environment.
