As the Christmas and end-of-year festivities approach, the City of Milan lit up the Games Tree this Wednesday, December 6, symbolizing the upcoming arrival of the Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games. of 2026 in Italy.
A a little more than two years before the opening of the Milan-Cortina 2026 Winter Games, Italy is gradually preparing to enter a crucial phase of preparations, whether in the context of construction sites of course, but also as part of communicating with the organizers’ desire to celebrate an international event designed to benefit the entire country.
In this regard, initiatives will be carried out to promote the global sporting event which, twenty years following the 2006 Turin Games, is preparing to return to the Italian massifs.
Among the popular events expected, the City of Milan carried out, this Wednesday, December 6 evening, the lighting of the Christmas tree on the famous Piazza Duomo which, this year, is dedicated to the 2026 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Coming from near Varese, in Lombardy, the Games Tree measures no less than 28 meters high and was decorated to pay tribute to the 221 Italian medalists in the history of the Winter Games.
For this purpose, some 300 Christmas baubles in silver and red hues, mixed with medals in gold, silver and bronze colors, were placed on the branches, the whole being also lit with almost 100,000 micro-LEDs.
The reference to the 2026 Olympics is also found at the level of the pedestal where the immense tree was installed. Thus, above a cladding displaying the emblems of the Milan-Cortina 2026 Games, luminous letters have been arranged revealing the different sports and disciplines included in the Winter Games program.
Marking the launch of the Christmas and end-of-year festivities in the Lombardy city, the lighting ceremony brought together the Mayor of Milan, Giuseppe Sala, the President of the Lombardy Region, Attilio Fontana, and also the President of the Committee Organizer of the Milan-Cortina 2026 Games – also President of the Italian National Olympic Committee (CONI) and member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) – Giovanni Malago.
Vice-President of the Organizing Committee and President of the Italian Paralympic Committee, Luca Pancalli, was also there, as was the General Director of the Games Organizing Committee, Andrea Varnier, as well as the Executive President of the brand Italian mass market et sponsor games, long SMarina Caprotti.
