Unlike other Cherbourg screening rooms, the Palace, in Équeurdreville, is managed by an association. Fifty-six volunteers and two employees make up the structure. Twenty-seven volunteers are present to attend the traditional general assembly of the cinema.
With a lot of humor, the president, Michel Rey opens this new general assembly with the common thread, cinema, of course.
“Cinema is not a long, quiet river.” This is what Michel Rey notes. In perpetual organizational and technical evolution, staff, employees and volunteers, must constantly question themselves. Always with a common goal: to offer attractive films and provide comfort to its customers.
A record number of entries
The year 2023 will end with a record number for cinema. With almost 28 000 entrées, the Palace displays its best success rate since its creation in 1999. The next objective is to exceed the symbolic bar of 30,000 sales. A wish that the volunteers intend to achieve.
Super Mario, Avatar 2, Les Cadors, Asterix et Obélix, Les petits victories, are the films which were a hit this year for the local broadcaster. The complexity for the Équeurdrevillais cinema is the direct competition with the various well-known theaters in the Cherbourg city center. Which does not make the task easy for the president.
“Our problem is that it is difficult for us to have certain films in preview. To guarantee high scores for their films in multiplexes, they shift broadcasts to the 3rd, 4th, or even 5th week for small theaters like us”. Unacceptable for Michel Rey.
New projection equipment
Financial resources are needed a lot for the Palace. From now on, it is the accounting firm “Fiteco” which takes care of the financial management of the cinema. Brigitte and Isabelle, loyal volunteers, were also trained by the firm to ensure daily monitoring of accounting specificities. The president takes the opportunity to thank his volunteers for taking on this very time-consuming challenge.
To broadcast films, a cinema must have quality equipment. Used seven days a week, sometimes with up to ten hours of projection! A new tool has just been acquired by the Palace. The cost ? €90,000, excluding tax!
“Fortunately, there is an aid fund to meet our needs. It does not cover the entirety of this purchase. Our own funds must be used to make up the difference,” expresses Michel Rey. Now equipped for a few weeks, cinema projects a new qualitywhich he cannot envy of anyone.
After having approved the various reports, moral, financial and activities. Dominique Hébert, mayor of Equeurdreville-Hainneville, and Odile Lefaix Veron, assistant to associations, can rejoice in the good health of their local cinema.
The two elected officials reiterate their support and congratulate the numerous volunteers and employees for the investment they make in this place of culture, for all.
With family, alone or with friends, the Palace’s attractive prices ensure a quality service. Around a welcoming, smiling and pleasant team, there is no doubt that a convivial moment is guaranteed in front of quality films.
