The doubt that hung in the air was duly answered! In a confirmation to The VergeAnker reported that its future wireless chargers with support for Qi2 standard will provide 15W fast charging for iPhones 13, 14 and 15 — which will likely extend to all accessories that adopt the latest wireless charging standard developed by the Wireless Power Consortium, and not just those from Anker, of course.
Until now, it is worth remembering, chargers that use the first generation of the Qi standard (practically all on the market currently) are limited to offering just 7.5W of power to Apple smartphones, with fast wireless recharging (15W) being limited to accessories that support the company’s own standard, MagSafe.
Although Apple has not yet confirmed the news, one can imagine that it will not be limited to accessories from a single manufacturer, as we said. There are no products certified with Qi2 for sale yet, but companies like Belkin and Anker itself have already been certified — not to mention those that have already announced products with the new standard, such as mophie.
It was expected that we would have good news in this regard, given that Apple actively worked with WPC on the Qi2 magnetic specification — which, in addition to bringing faster wireless charging speeds, will also have other advantages such as perfect alignment of the device with accessories thanks to the use of magnets.
Just yesterday, we talked regarding the arrival of support for the Qi2 standard on iPhones 13 and 14 in the version Release Candidate of iOS 17.2. This support has already existed on iPhones 15 since the launch of the devices — although, at least initially, Apple informed that the recharging power with third-party accessories would remain at 7.5W.
In any case, the launch of the first products with the new standard is knocking on our door. They should hit the shelves this year — in time for the end of year parties and traditional Christmas/New Year gifts!
