The Shocking Case of a Mother’s Attempt to Electrocute Her Children

On March 2, 2014, a mother born in 1979 attempted to kill her three children by electrocuting them. How ? By intentionally dropping a hairdryer in the bathtub while the children were bathing together.

She had previously asked the eldest, aged 6, what would happen if she dropped this hairdryer in the water. His response: “We’re going to die.” She also used an electric extension cord to reach the bathtub.

Fortunately, this assassination attempt failed. The seals blew, which made it possible to avoid a family tragedy. The mother then attempted suicide by taking medication following having consumed cocaine and alcohol the day before. She remained in a coma for five days. It was she who denounced what she had done in a letter in 2016. “Being here in court, I need it,” she said at the hearing last October.

This Wednesday morning, the Dinant criminal court noted that the reasonable time limit had been exceeded and granted this mother a simple suspension of the sentence for a period of five years.
