Sergio “Chicho” Soldati is in love with the radio, reach FM Horizonte It was a dream, but The success he experienced in Chile where he was the voice of Big Brother, he would not have imagined. He had already been the voice of the same program in Argentina in the 2007 edition, which included, among others, Marianela Mirra and Claudia Ciardone, but back then, without social networks, the situation was different.
What happened in Chile was a challenge for the announcer because it meant maintaining a neutral accent and maintaining it for long days, but the result was unexpected. “Until a week ago I didn’t have Instagram and I did it because a lot of people wanted to stay in touch with me”Soldati told PERFIL. The warmth of his treatment and the bond he achieved with the participants of the Big Brother house from the neighboring country made him become a celebrity.
Although “Chicho” admits that he does not like the exposure, the current director of Radio Horizonte appreciates all the affection he receives from those who watched the program. “They leave me a lot of comments on Instagram and they are all affectionate,” he acknowledged.
Soldati, 53 years old, always had a passion for radio driving. Since he was a child he played with a stick that he used as a microphone and pretended that he was interviewing anything he came across. He mainly admired Juan Alberto Badía and as fate would have it, he crossed paths with him at the school he attended because the driver’s children also went there. Seeing him in action when he offered to lead school events made Soldati even more enamored with the idea of elocution.
Radio Horizonte is back to stay: the best music and an unmatched style
When he was old enough to enter the Higher Institute of Radio Education (ISER), he was selected for the then complex admission of the institution, but at the same time he had to do his Compulsory Military Service. Once once more luck was on his side: “A lieutenant colonel who was a man I remember with great affection signed a permit for me so I might go to school, so I I was dressed as a conscript and there I shared a classroom with Viviana Canosa, with Juan Castromany people who have achieved a prominent place.”
The nerves of the first test on Radio Horizonte
“Radio has been my first love and in 1986 I discovered Radio Horizonte where you might hear those songs that invited you to dream and those wonderful voices they had and that was when I said I want to work here.” That desire became an opportunity following going through different low-power radios. One day he went to try out for Horizonte and, although he was very nervous, he earned a place.
He stayed there until its closure and following that he created a program dedicated to the radio that came out once a week online. “The program was called ‘Horizon as I feel you’ where the followers I had on social networks began to be active and at that time on Fridays at midnight we remembered anecdotes regarding Horizonte with the music that was played.”
After that first step, in 2015 he directly achieved the creation of Radio Horizonte in online format and this year he returned to the classic format with the dial FM 94.3.
The Big Brother experience
Soldati was summoned to be the voice of Big Brother Chile, where he obtained immense recognition. “I am absolutely moved, I didn’t have an Instagram account and I made one and they left me shocking comments, so much so that CHB from Chile, which is a kind of Telefe there, has also published a note titled ‘The Chilean people say goodbye to the endearing voice of the beloved Big’”
“The last moment, the departure from Jennifer’s house, the last participant, was very emotional, and it was also set to music with ‘Tema d’amore per nata’ from the soundtrack of Paradise cinema and, although at that moment I had to be very concentrated to say goodbye to her, I was on the verge of crying,” he shared.
-And do you remember what the experience of the first Big Brother in which you participated in Argentina was like?
– In 2007, at that time we were three announcers, we did shifts of 8 hours each and then there were two of us and later only one was left to shoot. But the impact back then, when social networks did not exist, was different. Now it is tremendous because of the impact or the immediate response that one has through social networks.
-What was it like when they called you?
-I was much younger and well, I had my doubts regarding knowing if I might do it well. But psychologists also participate in the work, which is essential because many times quite extreme situations are experienced, so at that point the kids can ask or one offers if they want to talk to a psychologist because my words like Big Brother go only so far.
I believe that something of Stockholm syndrome begins to play there, that very particular bond that the victim has with the kidnapper, bridging enormous distances, of course, because they are here of their own free will.
-How do you feel following having finished a job with such an emotional charge?
– I liked it a lot, but I always think of my dear Horizonte. The experience in Chile was very exhausting, but at the same time very rewarding from a professional point of view, but now the dedication begins to take Horizonte to the highest possible level.
