Instapaper’s other new feature, however, is not as interesting as this. From day January 1, 2024the price of the Premium subscription will be R$30 monthly or R$300 annually; For new subscriptions, this is the current price. The company highlighted that this is the first increase in the subscription price since 2014.
To justify the price increase, reasons were given such as greater investment (hiring more engineers) and resources being developed more quickly, as well as the addition of additional, more advanced functions.
Thus, in addition to the Permanent Archive, even more resources can be added and/or improved, such as text summary and organization tools, as well as improvements in the function of transforming text into audio — which have been requested by users. For this, more infrastructure is needed, which would also justify the increase in value.
Therefore, according to the company, the increase in the subscription price is necessary so that a self-sustainable business can be maintained. It was also highlighted that the last increase in value occurred nine years ago and that price changes in the near future should be minimized.
A version of the subscription for students was also announced, which maintains the previous price (half the new price). To access the lowest price, you must send an email to [email protected] with name, graduation date and a copy of student identification.
It is worth noting that the Premium subscription offers a series of additional features compared to the free version, such as unlimited notes, search throughout the text and the possibility of creating playlists with an audio version of the texts.
