After 76 years of publication, it would be the end of an era for the magazine Reader’s Digest and its readers.
According to the daily Globe & Mailthe media beloved by Canadians will cease operations over the next year due to “a decline in sales revenue, increased production and delivery costs and changes in consumer reading habits” , management told employees during an online meeting on Tuesday.
Sacred as the most influential magazine in the history of Canadian publishing by Mastheadin 2008, the Reader’s Digest has been in circulation since 1947.
According to the company Trusted Media Brands, 9.3 million unique Internet users consult the Reader’s Digest site monthly and the printed version reaches 13.1 million readers.
In French Canada, the media is offered via Reader’s Digest selection and its site Selection.ca. It is unknown whether the repercussions will be felt in this aspect.
