How Olvid works, the messaging service made in France that won over Elisabeth Borne

The news came via a circular from the Prime Minister dated November 22. By December 8, members of government and cabinets will have to uninstall instant messaging services such as WhatsApp, Telegram and Signal from their mobile phones. Elisabeth Borne believes that these applications “are not devoid of security vulnerabilities and therefore do not ensure the security of information” exchanged. Instead, she asks them to download the French application Olvidavailable on iOS and Android.

A huge boost for this French start-up, created by two cybersecurity experts, Thomas Baignères and Matthieu Finiasz. “It’s a fantastic spotlight. We now have 100,000 active users and overnight following the announcement, downloads increased by 653%» rejoices Thomas Baignères, also general manager of Olvid, who sees this as a sign that his application responds “to a real need to secure all communications.
