This week, Mercotte is once once more putting the candidates for Best Pastry Chef to the test with his Bolo de churros, similar to a churros charlotte, to reproduce. All the candidates are in difficulty in this test… The Belgian candidate included.
Cake inside, charlotte with churros above and a sun with three different colors in the middle, Mercotte did not skimp on the difficulty for the technical test of this 12th episode of Best Pastry Chef, with a view to qualifying for the semi-finals.
The difference this week is that Mercotte shows the cake to be reproduced directly to the candidates. “So, I barely noticed anything in the recipe”, she explains ahead of the test, playfully. A fake gift for our amateur pastry chefs?
Upon reading the instructions, candidates are not “not very inspired” and don’t understand the recipe. And Emily, the Belgian, is not to be outdone… From the start. “2,300g divided into three… I’m so bad at math”, she laughs to herself. She then makes her recipe without really believing in it. “It’s the only way to do it anyway…”suppose-t-elle.
Too liquid?
The several steps involved in making this Bolo de churros do not in any way comfort Emily, who, following having had some difficulty reproducing the multicolored sun, fears for her churros, whose dough is, according to her, too liquid… “Are you ready for a bitter failure?”she asks as she cooks the churros supposed to set her cake. “It’s going to be extremely funny.”she declares before imagining that “it’s going to be very, very ugly…”.
Made up of Cyril Lignac and Mercotte, the jury also seems… mixed on the result of the Belgian candidate’s Bolo de churros. “I don’t know what happened in the dough but it doesn’t work at all”, balances Cyril Lignac. Will this pastry be decisive for Emily’s qualification?
