“Sorry, I didn’t understand, the Internet connection is having problems.” Since late Monday followingnoon, many users of the Alexa voice assistant have heard this phrase coming out of their Amazon Echo speaker. Internet connection is essential for Alexa to work.
The site Down Detector, which relays in real time the status of various websites and services, has recorded a sharp increase in outage reports since around 4 p.m. The bug seems to persist since the number of complaints has continued to increase, with a peak around 8 p.m.
Still according to Down Detector, these outages mainly affect the north-eastern part of France, but also Belgium. The reports are mainly concentrated in the Paris region, but also around Lille, Reims and Troyes.
Shortly before 10 p.m., 47% of customers affected by the outage reported a connection problem, 41% a problem connecting to the server and 12% a problem connecting to the Alexa application. Disconnected from the Internet, Amazon’s voice assistant cannot work properly.
Table tracking Amazon’s quality of service he does not report any technical problem.
