Tom Hanks had “no ambition” when he was a teenager.

The “Forrest Gump” star, now 67, is renowned for his many contributions to cinema over the years as an actor, producer, writer and director, and has won numerous awards for his work, including two Oscars, but he didn’t always aspire to greatness because he lacked motivation when he was younger.

In an interview with the Guardian, Tom explained: “I had no ambition to do anything except maybe kiss Marie, a classmate, or make Dorothy laugh.”

The actor admitted that he was fascinated by space and was first introduced to the cinematic landscape by watching Stanley Kubrick’s classic film “2001: A Space Odyssey.”

He said: “I can tell you what day. It was a Sunday, it was a little rainy and it was cold. It was the day the Oakland Raiders beat the Kansas City Chiefs, in November 1968. I took my breath away. It presented this romantic notion of a human being in a place devoid of life. I had already paid attention to the space program, but it wasn’t until I saw this film that I was seduced by the art and romanticism that emanated from it.

Tom explained that his fascination with space and this film gave him an appreciation of Hollywood and the art of cinema, and set him on a path to a career in the industry, even though he didn’t. didn’t realize at the time.

He added: “I knew it took scientific knowledge to go into space, but I wasn’t a scholar. What I had, I suppose, was an incredibly active imagination, without surrendering realized that the things I had in my head were essentially storyboards for my future films.”
