The new president of Argentina, Javier Milei, had announced that he would not invite Daniel Ortega to his inauguration

The dictatorship of Daniel Ortega announced this December 4 the withdrawal of the Nicaraguan ambassador to Argentina, Carlos Midence, in anticipation of the upcoming inauguration of the new president of that South American country, Javier Milei.

Milei is a far-right politician, who unreservedly questions socialist regimes like Ortega’s.

“Given the installation and takeover of a new government in the Republic of Argentina, an inauguration that will take place on December 10, and in the face of repeated statements and expressions from the new rulers, the government of unity and national reconciliation of Nicaragua has proceeded to withdraw his ambassador, fellow writer and communicator Carlos Midence,” states the press release signed by Foreign Minister Denis Moncada.

The note adds that this mandate becomes effective immediately, before Milei takes office on December 10.

Officials appointed by Milei have maintained that they excluded Ortega from invitations to the inauguration ceremony, as well as the presidents of Cuba, Venezuela and Iran.

Milei has also said that he will not promote “relations with communists, nor with Cuba nor with Venezuela, nor with North Korea nor with Nicaragua nor with China.”

Ortega and Murillo congratulated Milei

After the victory of Javier Milei in Argentina in the second round was confirmed, on Sunday, November 19, Ortega and his wife and co-ruler, Rosario Murillo, sent greetings to the Argentine people and congratulated the new president, through an official message.

“In correspondence with the decision of the Argentine people to elect their president, we congratulate the elected president, Javier Milei, with our wishes for the well-being of the noble Argentine families. We greet you with affection and fraternal feelings of unity in our great country, in the spirit of our heroes who always give us strength to fight, to transcend, and to defend peace,” the message expressed.

Carlos Midence

The writer Carlos Midence spent almost two years in the position of Nicaraguan ambassador to Argentina. He was appointed in March 2022, following the appointment of ambassador to Spain was withdrawn amid the diplomatic tensions that existed at that time.
