Siri button in tvOS 17.2 will open search when pressed once

Currently in the fourth beta version, the tvOS 17.2 will bring some reformulations to the interface and the system as a whole. One of them concerns the operation of the Siri button on the Siri Remote, the Apple TV control. With the update, pressing the button just once will no longer trigger the assistant.

Pressing the Siri button will open the search, with a bar on the screen that says “search for movies, series and more”. The search can be carried out by dictating the terms and, in the results, it will be possible to filter them by service/application, in the case of Apple Music or Apple TV+, being able to select one of them to open the app with the search results.

Tapping the Siri button on the Siri Remote now invokes Search. In the fourth beta of tvOS 17.2, the new search integrates both Apple TV and Apple Music in app results on the Home screen and with native apps.

It is worth noting that it will continue to be possible to access Siri through the button previously dedicated to her. The difference, however, is that the way to activate it will be by pressing and holding the button, and not just pressing it once. Pressing the button accidentally will, from the update onwards, be even more uncomfortable, as it will open the search bar, which is larger than the Siri interface.

The change is interesting, as it modifies the interface with less use of Siri in favor of search, something that may make more sense when using Apple TV. As it is a beta version, however, it is possible that, until the final version of the system is released, there will be more changes.

In addition to this change in how the Siri button works, tvOS 17.2 will bring other changes. One of them is a new sidebar in the Apple TV app, which will allow navigation between the different content available.
