Al Khobar: Massive Crackdown on Residence, Employment, and Border Violations

Al Khobar: 17,976 foreigners were arrested for violating residence, employment and border security rules in raids in different areas of the country. The Home Ministry said the arrests were made during a joint search by various units of the security forces across the country during the week of November 23 to 29. Among those arrested were 10,881 residence violators, 4,159 border security violators and 2,936 labor law violators.

Another 700 people were arrested while trying to cross the border into the country. 40 percent of them are Yemenis, 56 percent are Ethiopians and 4 percent are from other countries. 128 law breakers were caught trying to cross the border to leave the country.

Seven persons were arrested for smuggling and harboring people who violated the residence and employment regulations. A total of 51,267 violators are currently being processed for contravening the regulations. Out of which 44,922 are male and 6,345 are female.

45,054 offenders were referred to their diplomatic missions to obtain travel documents. 2,070 violators were referred to complete their travel reservations. 9,343 violators were deported.

The Ministry of Interior emphasized that those who facilitate the entry of an intruder into the country or provide transportation, shelter or any aid or service will face imprisonment of up to 15 years and a maximum fine of 10 lakh riyals, in addition to confiscation of means of transport and accommodation.
