The US government has placed North American wolverines on the endangered species list. They have been moved to the threatened list due to factors such as climate change.

They are listed as threatened only in the United States. There are thousands of wolverines in areas like Alaska and Canada. The reason for their decline in the United States is that they were caught before by setting traps and so on. In 2013, during the time of former American President Barack Obama, the demand to include them in the Endangered Species Act protection was first raised. With inclusion in the Endangered Species Act, killing them will become illegal.

Global warming and the resulting melting of snow pose great challenges for these living in snowy regions. As mammals, they are close relatives of the ferrets. At first glance they resemble a small bear and are close relatives of badgers and skunks. Wolverines are also capable of killing prey twice their weight. From small fruit to small birds they are eaten.
