NHL Game Recaps: Panarin’s Hat Trick, Marchand’s Heroics, and More!

Artemi Panarin recorded the fifth hat trick of his career, in addition to collecting an assist, and the New York Rangers defeated the San Jose Sharks 6-5 Sunday night at Madison Square Garden.

At the start of the third period, Panarin allowed the fans to throw hats and caps on the ice by scoring his third goal of the game to bring the score to 5 to 3 in favor of the Rangers. Panarin then assisted on K’Andre Miller’s net 10 minutes later, a goal that proved to be the game-winner.

Jacob Trouba, Vincent Trocheck and Jonny Brodzinski had two assists. Aged 30, Brodzinski collected four mentions in two games this weekend in a Rangers uniform. He has never had more than six points in a season in the NHL, during the 2017-18 season with the Los Angeles Kings.

Trailing by three goals in the third, the Sharks made things interesting late in the game. Fabian Zetterlund and Alexander Barabanov scored within 72 seconds to reduce the deficit to one goal. The Blueshirts, however, held on to score a third victory in a row.

In front of the Rangers net, Jonathan Quick held his own by making 23 saves. The veteran goalie is now 7-0-1 this season in the Big Apple.

Mika Zibanejad, who also had an assist, and Will Cuylle scored the Rangers’ other goals. Alexis Lafrenière had an assist and missed a penalty shot during this game.

Anthony Duclair, Ryan Carpenter and Jacob MacDonald all beat Quick. Against his former team, Duclair added an assist. He now has four points in his last two games.

Brad Marchand stuns the Blue Jackets

In less than six minutes, Brad Marchand found the back of the net three times to guide the Boston Bruins to a 3-1 victory over the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Trailing by a goal, Marchand scored three times in the third period in the space of 5:50.

This is the sixth time in his career that he has scored a hat trick.

His 75th power play goal allows him to overtake Bobby Orr for ninth place in Bruins history in this category.

The Bruins captain now has eleven goals in the regular season. His performance also allows the Bruins to achieve a third victory in a row.

Boone Jenner put the Blue Jackets ahead with 35 seconds left in the second period on passes from Mathieu Olivier and Zach Werenski. This is the fourth time this season that Jenner has opened the scoring in a game. A peak he shares with nine other players in the NHL this season.

Jeremy Swayman blocked 24 shots in front of the Bruins cage while Spencer Martin made 25 saves for Columbus.

Bruins defenseman Charlie McAvoy recorded two assists in his 400th career game. With 44 goals and 203 assists, he ranks third in Bruins history among defensemen who made their debut with the team and played as many games for points. Only Bobby Orr (508) and Raymond Bourque (407) did better than him.

Saros takes care of the Sabers

The Nashville Predators held on to win 2-1 over the Buffalo Sabres.

Filip Forsberg surprised Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen from a faceoff in the first period with a quick shot. It was his 13th goal of the campaign.

Only a minute later, Yakov Trenin added to the Preds’ lead, in his case it was his fifth goal of the season.

Victor Olofsson was awarded a penalty shot in the middle period and got the better of Juuse Saros.

The Predators goaltender was, however, perfect in front of his net therefollowing, notably stopping 12 shots in the third period to put his team back on the path to victory. Both teams had lost their two previous matches before this clash.

Saros made 34 saves in the victory. For his part, Luukkonen recorded 27 saves in front of the Sabres cage.

The Kings open the machine in third

Two goals from the Los Angeles Kings in a span of 56 seconds in the third period led to a 4-1 victory over the Colorado Avalanche.

This gain allows the Kings to return to the winning path while the Avalanche suffers a third defeat in a row. Colorado was without star guard Cale Makar who suffered a lower-body injury in Saturday’s game once morest Anaheim.

With the third tied 1-1, Quinton Byfield, with his second of the game, broke the tie at 13:26. Then at 14:22, Trevor Moore made a nice play by placing the puck in the top of the net following a fake behind the net to make it 3-1

Byfield scored for the first time in the second period.

Drew Doughty completed the scoring with an empty-net goal on a pass from goalie Cam Talbot.

Josh Manson scored the first goal of the game on assists from Mikko Rantanen and Nathan MacKinnon, who collected a point in his eighth straight game.
