Taking Action to Limit Global Warming: Insights from the Climate Coalition and COP28

2023-12-03 18:53:31

During the first nine months of 2023, the Earth’s average temperature was 1.4 degrees warmer than in pre-industrial years. This remains slightly below the limit of 1.5 degrees of warming, set by the Paris climate agreement signed in 2015. “Every tenth of a degree counts to limit the effects of global warming, in terms of human rights, energy supply, food production and even biodiversity“, underlines the Climate Coalition in this regard.

The dramatic consequences of the climate crisis are visible all over the world, but also at home, as in recent weeks in the Westhoek“, underlines the vice-president of the Climate Coalition Zanna Vanrenterghem. “COP28 must ensure that world leaders actually meet their climate commitments.

We ask Belgium and Europe to finally work on insulating our homes, strengthening public transport, reducing pollution, improving air quality, protecting the nature and sustainability of our industry“, also pleaded the vice-president.
