Brazilian mastopexy technique is systematized

Advances in the field of breast plastic surgery in Brazil are generating interest from surgeons from different parts of the world, due to the benefits and results provided to patients by Mastopexia Multiplanos L.

The technique – which has the advantage of treating breasts in different layers of the skin, allowing for more precise and personalized remodeling – has been systematized and is being replicated in different countries. Furthermore, the “L” shaped scar, measuring around 4 centimeters, is discreet and offers women greater freedom in choosing clothes and necklines, without the embarrassment of a visible mark.

Breast tissue repair

This technical refinement was designed by the plastic surgeon, Dr. Adel Bark Jr, responsible for the process of training new surgeons in this procedure. “By completely separating the skin envelope from the breast tissue and muscle, we treat these components independently and completely. This technique offers a solution for almost 100% of patients who have a disproportion between excess skin and breast tissue”, comments the specialist.

Adel says that he gradually eliminated the need for prior appointments, which generated great surgical complexity, and applied the technique in increasingly challenging cases. “In this way, we managed to systematize a reproducible way of performing the L-shaped scar technique, so much so that the vast majority of surgeons who are coming to learn are already performing the L-shaped scar on their patients”, says Adel. According to him, several colleagues report that even when they are unable to deliver an L-shaped scar, the Multiplanos concept has allowed them to reduce their scars and promote greater stability of the surgery.

Recently, another edition to disseminate the technique was held in Curitiba with the course “Multiplane Mastopexy in L”, which brought together surgeons from Peru, Argentina, Colombia, Spain, Mexico, Egypt and Brazil. In total, more than 250 Brazilian surgeons and those from 11 other countries have already been trained in Curitiba and are applying the concepts to their patients.

Study on Mastopexy

In a recent study scientific – carried out with Brazilian patients and recently published in the plastic surgery magazine aimed at doctors, the Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeryon the L-shaped Multiplane Mastopexy technique – proved that the technique is safe and effective and stands out notably from traditional techniques.

“Even in large breasts with large ptosis, the multiplane technique allows for stability and a reduced L-shaped scar”, highlights Adel, who has more than 3,500 mastopexy surgeries to his credit using the L-shaped scar, currently being the method used by him in 100% of patients.

Global breast surgery data

On the global stage, mammoplasty stands out as the most commonly performed aesthetic procedure. In 2020, 1.6 million mammoplasty procedures were performed worldwide, according to the International Society of Plastic Surgery.

Brazil appears as the second country in the world ranking of aesthetic procedures, with 1.9 million consultations per year. Of this total, 1.3 million are surgeries, placing the country second only to the United States in terms of volume.

In a scenario where Brazil performs more than 100,000 surgeries annually to reposition the breasts, the Multiplanos L-shaped Mastopexy not only puts the country at the forefront of breast plastic surgery, but also promises to improve the quality of life of countless women.
