One in two seniors believe that banks offer more services to young customers, according to an OpinionWay and Obendy study. Those over 60 are demanding more personalization and more services from their banks, particularly for carrying out financial projects.

Are seniors the ones forgotten by banks? The question arises for those over 60. According to an OpinionWay and Obendy study, half of them feel that banks offer more services to young customers. Seniors expect more personalization from their bank, particularly for financial projects. Whether it is investing money, preparing for retirement or taking out a property loan, more than 3 out of 10 seniors regret not having more support from banking establishments.

Like many young retirees, Sylvie, 66, wanted to move to the countryside two years ago. To change homes, his bank offered him just one product: the bridging loan. “When you are young, there are quite a few banking products designed for you to encourage you to take out a loan and make a commitment. But there is no specific product for seniors: there is no zero loan, or we do not help seniors to move from an active life to a retired life”, the sixty-year-old told Europe 1.

Be better supported

Those over 60 would like to be supported on subjects that go beyond the financial sphere. For example regarding becoming a caregiver for a dependent parent. “The bank can support the discovery of this new role. Both thanks to content that will help the senior understand what it means to be a caregiver, what assistance is available, both financial aid or aids in accessing associations. And then alongside this content there are services, applications for example which allow the helper to think regarding everything he has to do”, indicates Julien Lhoste, director of Obendy. The passage of sixty is also the starting point of physical decline for seniors, who on the other hand would not receive support from their bank.
