María Victoria, last Thursday you had your birthday, how many candles did you blow out?
Thirty-seven. I am at a stage in my life where I feel happy and at peace, I would not turn back time at all.
Have you gained more experience?
My past was not pretty. I had financial shortages, I suffered from depression, couples teased me, I always looked for the person out of loneliness, I was a good recycler, I would grab anything, but I underwent therapy and learned to live in an emotionally healthy way. Today I enjoy myself, I go alone to the theater, to the restaurant, I like my company.
Are your children your driving force in life?
Yes, since I became a mother I built my house, I started studying Psychology, I have to be better for them.
How long have you lived in Villa El Salvador?
My dad arrived from Cuba in ’91 and we have lived here forever. But I’m saving to one day move to another district.
At what age did you start working?
When I was a child I sold causa, chicha or queque in the parish, I was always looking at how to generate income. Right there we also did theater and charged a sol for admission, from there I acted and earned my little money, a little bit, but it was something.
And how do they pull you to television?
When I finished school I started modeling and hosting and at the same time I was studying to enter San Marcos to major in Law, but I didn’t get in. And while I was waiting for the next exam, I entered a theater workshop and that’s where they called me from a modeling program, but when they saw my resume they asked me if I might play a Brazilian and I told them ‘of course’, but I didn’t know anything. .
How did you do it?
That same day I bought a cassette in Portuguese at Jirón de la Unión. I learned the way of speaking and they told me: ‘You are going to play Chuiman’s Brazilian niece.’ I no longer applied for a law degree, I went to the School of Dramatic Arts and ended up studying acting.
When do your children arrive?
I had my first child when I was 30 years old. The boy is 7 years old and my girl is 3.
