We are indeed going to extend free access to primary 3 and to maturity 2 in specialized education. The desire is for the school to be accessible to all families. In total, the measure over all years will cover 320,000 students. For these children, parents will not have to buy school materials (notebook, pencil, etc.). This also allows for economies of scale, since we are making a group purchase. This measure is complementary to that on free canteens for differentiated supervision in primary and nursery schools led by Frédéric Daerden.

What happens to the costs of green classes and school trips?

For the moment, for kindergartens, it is capped. We do not yet have an agreement at primary level. Habits are very different from one school to another. It is therefore a more difficult debate, particularly regarding snow classes in primary 6. We feel that this is a tradition in many schools, even in less advantaged schools. We continue the dialogue.

A word regarding parents who leave unpaid bills to management. Schools assign them. What can you do ?

This is academic autonomy. What is important is that children do not find themselves at the heart of money issues which might stigmatize them.

“A child who learns from an early age that his body belongs to him will be better able to fight incest…or other types of violence from family or other children. When we are told that we should not run the Evras program at school because it is up to the family to do it… we see that, on the contrary, we need more Evras. We see that there are families where children are faced with dangerous situations. This is why we need spaces for dialogue in schools. »

Harassment: “A new call for projects for more than 200 schools. »

Are you going to launch a new call for projects?

“In our framework program for the prevention and management of school bullying, we are going to activate a second component in 200 schools per year. This year we have already done it in 120 schools. Next year, we will do it in 280. A call will be launched in the second term. »

How is this going in the 120 schools already affected this year?

“These 120 schools have enrolled in a framework prevention program. They received help from a “school climate” referent (a teacher). They will be supported for four years by an external operator approved by the FWB with the aim of implementing an action program. Afterwards, they will be able to operate independently to continue the work. »

What should they do?

“We asked them to respond to a series of conditions and minimum mandatory actions (train all teaching and educational staff, set up conflict management with discussion spaces, organize information sessions at the school community on what cyberbullying is and therefore also aimed at parents, who are not always aware of what is happening on social networks) in a prevention approach. »

Do schools have autonomy to work?

“There will also be additional actions left to the choice of the school, via an intervention unit with a referent person, prevention actions (practice and restorative justice, peer mediation, etc.). The desire is to leave autonomy to schools. There are no miracle recipes, but you have to devote time to them. We also want to allow schools to exchange their good practice. »
