On Friday July 28, 2023 around noon, an unknown man attacked a 34-year-old woman in the Berlare Broek nature reserve near the Donkmeer in Berlare.
The events occurred on a narrow path between intersections 14 and 15.
The victim was walking when he was suddenly grabbed from behind by the suspect. He pushed her to the ground and attempted to rape her. The woman resisted forcefully and was able to escape. She had to abandon her cell phone at the scene because the suspect had thrown it.
About two hours following the incident, the victim’s boyfriend returned to the trail to look for his girlfriend’s cell phone and take photos of the scene.
In one of the photos, we see the alleged suspect, recognized by the victim. We can assume that the suspect returned to the scene to retrieve his electric scooter.
The suspect is a man aged 30 to 35. He is of normal build and quite tall, between 1m85 and 1m90. He has dark hair and a dark, full beard.
At the time of the incident, he was wearing a dark blue T-shirt and dark jeans. He had a black “Quicksilver” brand backpack and black Nike brand sports shoes with a distinctive white sole. He also had a black scooter.
The man speaks in Dutch with an accent from the Berlare region.
