The forecast this Sunday

As announced by Luc Trullemans, the weather is getting worse this Sunday. Frosts will be widespread as a disturbance arrives from the west on Sunday morning. This will involve snowfall (1 to 3 cm) turning into rain with a risk of icy conditions, according to forecasts from the Royal Meteorological Institute (IRM). South of the Sambre-et-Meuse furrow, clearings will give way to cloudier skies in the followingnoon, but the risk of winter precipitation will be much reduced.

The maxima will be between 0 and -2°C in Ardennes and around 0 or 1°C elsewhere. The southerly wind will generally be moderate with peaks of 50 km/h.

This evening and next night, the sometimes wintry precipitation will evacuate towards the northeast, then the weather will become temporarily drier once more. The sky will remain quite cloudy with minimums of -3°C in Ardennes to 1°C in the west of the country. The wind will generally remain moderate from the south.

David Dehenauw confirmed

“Very cloudy, gradually snow (0-4 cm on the grass, away from obstacles), late followingnoon or early evening locally possibly freezing rain, especially in the West, drier in the South from the Sambre-Meuse furrow, -2 to +2 degrees, 3-4 Bf S, 4-5 by the sea,” he writes on X.

Warning for slippery conditions

Faced with these forecasts, the IRM has decided to place a large part of the country on yellow warning for slippery conditions. Indeed, patches of ice will be possible this morning in West and East Flanders. Roads may be slippery in these areas. What’s more, as mentioned above, an area of precipitation will cross the country from west to east. It will initially be snow (1 to 3 cm) turning into possibly freezing rain, especially in the west. Note that the south will be more affected by light snowfall (Namur and Luxembourg remain green).

The following provinces are therefore placed in an alert phase since 5 a.m. this morning until 1 a.m. tomorrow Monday: Hainaut, Liège, Walloon Brabant, Brussels, West Flanders, East Flanders, Antwerp, Limburg, Flemish Brabant and also the Belgian Coast.

Forecast for the coming week

On Monday, a new area of sometimes wintry precipitation will quickly invade the country through France. The rains may once more be preceded by snow or freezing rain, mainly in the morning. Temperatures will rise slowly to reach 2°C in the Hautes Fagnes and 6°C in the regions close to France at the end of the day. The wind will be moderate to fairly strong from south to southeast with gusts of 50 to 60 km/h.

Mardi, cloudiness will be abundant with precipitation. Especially in the Ardennes, they might still be wintery. The maximums will be between 2 degrees in Hautes Fagnes and 7 degrees at the seaside. The wind will be moderate from west to southwest in the interior and fairly strong to strong from west to northwest at the coast.

Wednesday, some sometimes wintry showers will still cross our country. The maxima will range between 2 degrees in upper Ardennes and 7 degrees in Flanders, under a moderate west to northwest wind weakening at the end of the day and returning towards the southwest. The following night will be colder once more with fairly widespread frosts.

The day of THURSDAY will begin with dry weather, broad clearings and numerous high-altitude clouds. As the hours pass, the sky will get cloudier from France. During the followingnoon, rain will already arrive in the West. The maxima will vary between 1 and 5 degrees under a generally moderate south-easterly wind.
