Top: Alstom is expanding further in Portugal

Good pick for Alstom. Tuesday, November 28, the Portuguese Railways company selected the French railway manufacturer and its local partner Domingos da Silva Teixeira to deliver 117 multiple units, for an amount estimated at 819 million euros according to the Lusa press agency. 62 trains dedicated to urban service and 55 trains to the regional network are planned.

Portugal is not an unknown territory for Alstom, which estimated last year that two out of three trains in circulation in the country came from its workshops. The French company, which opened an innovation center in the Porto region in September 2022, might also build a 20,000 m² factory as part of the contract it has just won.

Flop: to join EDF, Steam Power will have to wait

In Belfort (Territoire de Belfort), employees of the General Electric Steam Power site are in the dark. Thursday, November 30, the formalization of the takeover of the nuclear branch of General Electric by the French energy company EDF was postponed to a later, undisclosed date. Luc Rémont, CEO of EDF, was due to go there to complete the operation, announced in February 2022.

The manufacturing of Arabelle turbines, which are among the most powerful in the world, had to be relocated on site. Concerns linked to trade sanctions once morest Russia would have been there, the entity’s main client being the Russian Rosatom. More than 1,000 people are affected in Belfort, out of a total of 3,400 people potentially moving to EDF.
