Event on the topics “Overcoming conflicts”, “Creating cooperation” and “Shaping the future” with, among others, Husain, Shklarek-Zeman, Fasslabend, Freiheim
Vienna (OTS) – Yesterday, Friday followingnoon, the Austrian MEP Lukas Mandl invited people to an followingnoon at the Diplomatic Academy under the motto “Red-White-Red and Europe”.
Mandl gave a speech to around 100 guests in which he addressed the “burning priorities in the finale of the parliamentary term”. “While there is already a lot of talk regarding the European elections in all member states, at the European level it is important to use every day to contribute to security and stability for Europeans and for the world,” said Mandl. In his speech, he discussed the negotiation issues for which he is responsible, from migration – “so that the EU can finally create an appropriate, humane and appropriate migration policy” – to the Middle East. For example, Mandl is currently negotiating the European Parliament’s Syria report as chief negotiator for the EPP group. “What gives my parliamentary work orientation is the desire to always contribute to a Europe with more external strength and more internal freedom,” said Mandl.
Under the moderation of Andy Marek, personalities such as National Council members Gudrun Kugler and Nico Marchetti, the deputy Lower Austrian state school representative Lilly Freiheim, Caroline Parsché ( Head of the parliamentary office of Lukas Mandl), Martin Weiss (former Austrian ambassador to Israel and the USA, now president of the Salzburg Global Seminar), Arif Husain (economic director of the World Food Program, WFP), Caroline Shklarek-Zelman (chairwoman of the Women Zionist Organization, WIZO, in Austria) as well as the President of the Austrian Institute for European and Security Policy, former Federal Minister Werner Fasslabend and the former MEP Heinz Becker. The director of the Diplomatic Academy, Ambassador Emil Brix, addressed those present at the opening.
The reason for the event was the presentation of the 2024 desk calendar, which provides information regarding Mandl’s parliamentary work under the motto “Red-White-Red and Europe” and is published annually. The current calendar has the motto “Building Bridges”.
