Commissioners of the National Authority for Consumer Protection (ANPC) have started checks on fruit and vegetable suppliers and fines amounting to 140,000 lei have been issued so far. Also, two tons of fruit were temporarily stopped from being sold, until the information deficiencies regarding their origin or name are remedied, according to news.ro

ANPC reported on Friday that the representatives of the Bucharest-Ilfov Regional Commissionerate for Consumer Protection (CRPCR) Bucharest-Ilfov have started a series of verifications of the correctness of the information regarding the origin/name of the fruits and vegetables sold.
Thus, on November 28 and 29, 11 suppliers of vegetables, fruits and natural juices of the Mega Image retail chain were identified, following control actions at a store in Sector 3 of the Capital and at two warehouses belonging to the chain, located in ilfov County.
Following the checks, fines in the amount of 140,000 lei were given and two tons of fruit were temporarily stopped from being sold, until the information deficiencies regarding their origin or name are remedied.
“In our country, vegetables and fruits do not ripen in winter! With very few exceptions, we can’t talk regarding Romanian products, so we wanted to find out if it’s a spell or a scam!”, said ANPC president, Horia Constantinescu.
Sanctions were applied, in the case of three economic operators, for deceptive commercial practices, respectively: the mention on the product label of a variety of imported fruit, from the documents made available to the control team, failing to establish the fact that the traded products come from the said variety.
The checks also continue with regard to their origin, name and veracity, in the case of products sold that come from Romania.
The National Authority for Consumer Protection announced that it will extend, in the next period, these checks to the whole country.
