Rayane’s gift
Rayane asks Karim to help him out financially this week so that he can eat. He’s saving up to buy Jack some sneakers. A limited edition. Karim remembers that Rayane had already bought her boyfriend a pair this summer. Rayane explains to him that Jack wears these sneakers every day and that they are worn out. He then tries to soften Karim. Rayane points out that Jack’s family is not financially comfortable, and that he would like to give them a nice gift for Christmas. Karim lets himself be convinced and gives him 50 euros. At school, in the middle of sports class, Rayane’s phone rings. He seems to receive some good news… Only, he has to make himself available immediately, so he pretends he has a stomach ache and slips away! Jack wonders… After class, while Jack is quietly at Spoon, Rayane shows up! Jack continues to wonder why his darling skipped gym class. He takes advantage of Rayane going to the toilet to search his bag. He discovers the pair of collector sneakers in his size and understands that it is his Christmas present. The problem is that he had planned to give Rayane a simple reissue of a manga for Christmas.
François and Charlie are leaving in a month
Soizic arranged to meet François at the hospital. She apologizes for her reaction to the announcement of her departure for Montreal. Seized with remorse, Soizic admits to having reacted like a child and she is sorry. She understood that she had to let him go to Canada with Charlie. François is reassured. He immediately received a message from the Agency for the Teaching of French Abroad. They are missing a teacher and François therefore has his detachment earlier than expected.
At high school, François meets Etienne who notices his preoccupied look. Charlie’s partner explains to him that he has just announced to the principal that they were leaving them at the start of the school year in January and she did not take it very well. He then announces to Etienne that he is moving to Canada with Charlie. Dorian’s father is delighted for them even if they didn’t choose the best timing. He will therefore contact the rectorate and notify the inspection. François thanks him for his understanding and says he is ready to facilitate the transition with his replacement. But François begins to feel a little guilty regarding embarrassing Etienne and the principal and later confides in Charlie. The young woman emphasizes that he owes them nothing. In the evening, Charlie and François toast their new life with Alain. They leave on January 5, 2024. Charlie had his study visa for two years. Alain makes sure that his son is happy and that he does not go to Canada just to please Charlie. François recognizes that initially, it was only his partner’s project, but since then, it has become both of their projects. He thinks this new life will do him good.
A hacker sows panic
At the hospital, Benjamin has no news of Bastien’s father and does not know what to do. He confides his incomprehension to Victoire. Benjamin was convinced that John would come to the hospital directly following telling him that he was compatible with Bastien, especially since a bone marrow transplant is the only real chance of saving his son. Victoire encourages him to talk to the police regarding John’s call. She emphasizes that it is urgent to find him so that he can be near his son. But Benjamin has little desire to betray John. Victoire reminds him that his priority is his patient. Benjamin follows his advice and goes to the police station to testify. He explains to Aurore that he thought John was going to come on his own. Aurore points out that he prefers to stay on the run rather than save his son. Benjamin assures Aurore that John would be incapable of killing anyone and even less of letting his son die.
Roxane did some research. The number that John Kovac used to call Benjamin comes from a prepaid phone purchased in Frontignan and which was only used to make this call. Since then, the phone has stopped transmitting. Sara finds it strange that John abandons his sick son, especially since he has a reputation for being a daddy hen. An idea then crosses Aurore’s mind: to use Bastien to help them find her father.
At the hospital, Bastien has started chemotherapy and Benjamin comes to check on him. But the teenager is especially worried regarding his father, of whom he has no news. Benjamin confides to him that his father is in trouble, and that they are doing everything to find him. Bastien quickly understands that his father is compatible for the transplant. He fears that his father will leave him alone. Benjamin tries to reassure him. He was certain that John would never do such a thing and then to be on the safe side, he launched a national search to find a suitable donor. Aurore interrupts them and asks to speak with Bastien. She explains to the teenager that no matter what his father did, the priority right now is his transplant. Aurore convinces Bastien to help them find John. She asks Bastien to call his father and tell him what is on his mind. The teenager leaves a message on his father’s answering machine.
At the same time, the car stolen by Kovac was found in a village near Sète, but John left no trace or print.
Not far away, John checks his email from another sim card. He listens to Bastien’s message who begs him not to leave him. John is terribly moved.
In the evening, Victoire tries to comfort Benjamin who fears that the national search to find a donor will yield nothing. A hacker calling himself Phantamlock sends a message to members of the hospital to inform them that he has taken control of their data. He leaves the hospital management 12 hours to transfer 150,000 euros in bitcoins otherwise they will have to expect the worst. Marianne discovers that the Sète hospital is the victim of a cyberattack with attempted extortion. She is frightened.
