The prospect of the Presidential election on February 25, 2024 is becoming more distant for the leader of the ex-Pastef, Ousmane Sonko. The Supreme Court recently denied his motion for a stay, ending his hopes for relief in the case.
The request was dismissed by the Supreme Court, which cited, among other reasons, that “the judgment in joint chambers hardly accommodates such a procedure”. This decision further complicates the situation for Ousmane Sonko, who had filed this request following the absence of one of the members of the composition of the hearing of the Administrative Chamber of the Supreme Court, last Friday, November 17.

Sonko’s lawyers had used this absence among other reasons to file a judgment, thus seeking a review of the previous decision. However, this attempt ended in rejection by the Supreme Court.
This decision leaves Ousmane Sonko with little recourse in his quest to participate in the presidential election, marking a critical turning point in the Senegalese political landscape. The electoral campaign continues, but for the moment, the participation of the ex-Pastef in the Presidential election seems more and more uncertain.
