Hamas today claimed responsibility for an attack that left three people dead at a bus stop in Jerusalem. “This proves that Hamas is not a negotiating partner“, reacts Hadja Lahbib, Minister of Foreign Affairs. “He is a terrorist agent who simply aims for the destruction of Israel as written in his charter“, continues the minister.

The minister also condemns Hamas. “They have been proven to use humans as shields“, explains the minister. “Using human beings, civilian populations, children, women as a shield is unacceptable. These are war crimes“, déclare Hadja Lahbib.

For the minister, “it also proves that we must tackle the root causes of this conflict“. “The truces, extended from day to day, even if we of course hope that they continue, will not make it possible to establish lasting peace“. What is needed, adds the minister, is “have the courage to tackle the root causes of the conflict, what created this terrorism” pour “finally allow Israelis and Palestinians to live in peace side by side“.

As for Hamas, “from the moment we have a group which demands the destruction of a State, of a people, we must ensure that it no longer has reasons to exist and that it can no longer push for others to commit terrorist attacks“, specifies the minister.

For the moment, it is towards those who are trying to negotiate that all eyes are turned: American Secretary of State Blinken who is currently on site, Qatar which serves as an intermediary with Hamas, the Arab countries and the European Union.
