The number 13 does not represent bad luck and setbacks, which have happened far too often in her career, but rather the project close to the heart of the 22-year-old high-flyer. On October 13th, the ski jumper released her own collection of 13 individual items of clothing. When? For the first three years I only focused on sport and was caught in a hamster wheel. “So I can now live out my creativity and it’s a lot of fun,” says the 15-time individual winner in the World Cup.
Initially, the garments designed were not intended for sale, but a lot of positive feedback changed people’s minds. Papa Ronald, who has 13 as his lucky number, had to be one of the first motifs. After a bike ride, he quickly found himself wearing a sweater he designed himself. That’s not the only thing that shows how important family is to the ski jumper. “Of course we all get older and go our own way, but when we get together it’s always fun. You notice how everyone is there for each other, the solidarity we have.” That was also an important support last summer, as the preseason didn’t necessarily go to the 2021 team world champion’s liking.
Distraction and distance
The bitter setback at the 2022 Winter Olympics, which she missed as the top favorite due to a positive corona test, was followed by a challenging World Cup winter in 2022/23. Fluctuations in form, problems and an interim World Cup break are just a few aspects of this period. “That’s why I tried to enjoy the summer and not just focus on training. If you keep thinking regarding ski jumping in your head, it eats you up, and that’s exactly what happened last year. That’s why I needed distraction and distance so that I might go back to the jump later with full anticipation. I actually managed that very well.” Even if it is difficult on some days, Kramer admits. “But that’s sometimes the same in professional life.”
When Daniela Iraschko-Stolz’s career ended at the end of September, the 22-year-old not only lost a supporter within the team, but also a good friend and former roommate. “She was an important person for us, especially for me, as she helped me enormously in the first few years. I missed her last season and was kind of hoping she would come back. But with the injury it’s understandable.” That’s not the only reason why it will be a completely new starting position for Kramer. The Salzburg woman wants to leave the setbacks of the past behind her and look forward – without any pressure to achieve results. “I would be happy if I was happy on the hill once more, if I might say that I enjoy doing it all. This experience during a jump that gives you that special feeling. Then it doesn’t matter what the result is in the end.”
