Rains in Luanda flood more than two thousand homes – news

The provisional balance presented by the provincial Civil Protection Commission of Luanda shows that the rains, which fell on the capital city, did not cause deaths or injuries. A total of 2,056 homes were flooded, around 10,000 people affected, and ravines threaten to cut off traffic on Estrada Nacional 100 and in the Centrality of KK 5000

in a press conference held last night, at the GPL amphitheater, Bravo Mendes, deputy provincial commander of the Civil Protection and Fire Service, said it was not normal to record this intensity of rain, and with that duration (12 hours, in total ), but everything is being done to reduce negative impacts.

In terms of floods, the SPCB has a record of 2056 residences, which associates the same number for affected families, and an approximate balance of almost 10 thousand people affected. “Among the obstructed, impassable and flooded roads, much more for the secondary and tertiary roads, until yesterday, the SPCB had recorded 92 roads. As for social infrastructure, churches, police stations, schools, there are 16. The most affected municipalities are Viana, Kilamba Kiaxi and Talatona”, he said.

Furthermore, Bravo Mendes drew attention to the fact that his team is recording many deaths related to poor electricity connections in homes, which is why he calls for the electricity to be turned off in these areas to avoid loss of life. On the other hand, the vice-governor for the technical sector and infrastructure, Cristino Mário, recognized that the unusual record of heavy rains this month left strong challenges for the province, mainly linked to flooding of residences, tertiary and secondary roads, among others.

“Usually, when we have heavy rains, we also record loss of human life, something that fortunately did not happen in the last rainfall. We want to congratulate our populations for having preventive behavior that made it possible to avoid losing human lives, in addition to the intense work that has been done in the province’s macro and micro drainage structures,” he said.
