Government highlights diversification of economic cooperation between Angola and the USA – news

The Minister of Economy and planning, Mário Caetano João, highlighted in Luanda the diversification of economic cooperation between Angola and the United States (USA), within the scope of American private investment

Speaking to journalists as part of Thursday’s meeting, at the White House, between Presidents João Lourenço and Joe Biden, the minister highlighted that cooperation has been deepening. Mário Caetano João reinforced that the two countries are diversifying cooperation, especially moving away from the extractive sector, particularly oil production. “We are moving into other areas, such as logistics.

The United States is interested in investing in logistics platforms, logistics centers, along the Lobito corridor”. He highlighted that they are diversifying towards the energy sector, not in fossil energy, but in renewable energy. “We know that we also have substantial financing in Biópio, where a photovoltaic plant was set up”.

Angola and the United States signed, in 2010, a strategic partnership agreement and cooperate in several areas, with emphasis on trade, finance, energy, manufacturing industry, security, health and justice. Angola is the USA’s third largest trading partner in sub-Saharan Africa, mainly due to oil exports. Trade between the two countries reached, until November 2019, around 1.4 billion dollars.
