The patient then spent 2.5 hours in the arrivals area of ​​the Calgary International Airport.

On November 24, 2023, the child was referred to the Alberta Children’s Hospital emergency department at 4 p.m.; he spent 5.5 hours in the waiting room before leaving.

On November 27, the child returned to the same emergency department at 1:15 p.m.; he spent three hours in the waiting room.

THE health authorities indicate that anyone who attended these locations at these times is strongly encouraged to check their vaccination record and call HealthLink 811 for advice. Affected individuals who were born following 1970 or who have received fewer than two documented doses of measles-containing vaccine are at risk of developing measles. Exposed people who have received less than two doses of measles-containing vaccine, who are pregnant, under the age of one year, or have a weakened immune system are encouraged to contact Health Link as they may benefit from medications (immunoglobulins) to prevent measles.

Anyone with symptoms of measles, namely a fever of 38.3°C or more, cough, runny nose and/or red eyes and a rash that appears between 3 and 7 days following the fever, should stay home and call 811 for advice instead of going to their health care provider.

The Alberta Health Service says anyone who thinks they may have been exposed to this case of measles can also be vaccinated.
