It’s the crisis in Anderlecht. Ecolo-Groen has tabled a motion for the authorization of convictional signs in the administration. This time the Greens want to go further than during the Stib file, since the motion, supported by the PTB, proposes the authorization of the wearing of convictional symbols in the municipal administration of Anderlecht “without exception”, causing an outcry within of the municipal council.

The motion must be voted on this Thursday. But now Anderlecht elected officials have received pressure encouraging them to vote for the proposal. Some mention threats of attack or even death threats by email. This goes a long way since a video is even circulating among the Whatsapp groups in Anderlecht, naming the councilors to call on them to vote.

“We literally fear for our safety”: Anderlecht elected officials threatened before the vote on the wearing of the veil in the administration

The president of the MR, Georges-Louis Bouchez, stepped up to the plate this Thursday and challenged the presidents of Ecolo. “The situation in Anderlecht has gotten out of control. I call on Jean-Marc Nollet and Rajae Maouane to condemn the lone rider of their Anderlecht section and to withdraw this text. It is their responsibility to ease the tension created by their elected officials. […] Electoral aims cannot justify such behavior,” denounces the liberal once more.
