SANAA, Nov. 29 (Xinhua) — Yemen’s Houthi rebels said on Thursday that the security of international navigation in the Red Sea is linked to the end of the conflict between Israel and Hamas, in response to a statement by the Group of Seven ( G7).
“The security of international navigation in the Red Sea, as well as the fate of the Galaxy Leader ship, is linked to the choices of the Palestinian resistance forces and what serves their objectives in the face of Israeli aggression,” the Houthis said in a press release broadcast by the group’s television channel, al-Masirah TV.
Hours earlier, G7 foreign ministers issued a statement on the situation in Israel and Gaza, calling on the Yemeni Houthis “to immediately cease attacks on civilians and threats once morest international shipping lanes and commercial vessels , and to release the M/V Galaxy Leader and its crew, illegally seized in international waters on November 19.”
Yemen’s Houthi militia has claimed responsibility for several cross-border missile strikes towards Israel, as well as the hijacking of the commercial vessel Galaxy Leader in the Red Sea, since the conflict between Israel and Hamas began on October 7.
The Houthi group controls much of northern Yemen, including the capital Sanaa and the strategic Red Sea port city of Hodeidah. END
