Trouble for TimeSplitters 4: Free Radical Design Shutdown and the Uncertain Future of the TimeSplitters Series

Earlier this month, we reported that D7d73beca83e64465a3d0b29349551601 TimeSplitters 4 was in trouble once more, as it looked like Embracer and its subsidiary Plaion were considering shutting down studio Free Radical Design as part of a major reorganization of the former. As a very, very bad gift for employees, it seems like it might almost happen before Christmas. Sources at VGC say a letter has been sent to the company explaining that Free Radical Design will indeed be shutting down on December 11. Lars Jannsen, VP of Global Studios and Talent at Plaion, wrote: “As we enter the consultation process and face the possible closure of Radical Design on December 11, 2023, I wanted to express my gratitude for your commitment and the great work you are doing. Thank you and will continue to do so. This is a challenging time for all of us, but especially for you, and our focus is on supporting you as much as possible during this transition. TimeSplitters 3 (TimeSplitters : Future Perfect) was released in 2005, and people have been clamoring for new games in the series ever since. But Free Radical Design had a very bumpy ride, transforming into Crytek UK in 2009, merging with Dambuster Studios in 2014 , and transitioned to free radical design once more in 2021, working on TimeSplitters 4. But this time the game doesn’t seem to be happening either, and we’re worried this might be the last chance for at least some of the original staff to make it. We really hope everything works out Get resolved and get the best out of it for everyone involved.
