Feminine protection: always contaminants
A test carried out by 60 million consumers in partnership with the Ecological Transition Agency (Ademe) was interested, among other things, in the undesirable substances present in disposable tampons, napkins and panty liners. Nine contaminants that pose the risk, proven or suspected, to be carcinogenic, mutagenic, reprotoxic or endocrine disruptors were sought. Study result: 70% of samples examined were contaminated by one or more undesirable substances. Thus, products in which glyphosate (or its metabolite: Ampa) has been detected are displayed in organic cotton, with or without a label. Some of the labeled products also contained traces of contaminants, in particular AOX (halogenated derivatives) and dioxins. ” It might be pesticide residues in the cotton used – which raises questions regarding the raw materials – or undesirables that appeared at the time of manufacturing, underlines the editorial. The levels detected are low, of course, and within the regulations, but our current knowledge is still very fragmented regarding the exposure of mucous membranes to this type of contaminant. “
