The Chicago Blackhawks, a team that has often been talked regarding badly in recent years, is currently dealing with a rather unfortunate situation: that of Corey Perry.
Obviously, it’s impossible to know exactly what happened with the former Blackhawks player to make the club decide to send him home for good, but we know it’s serious.
And we know, as GM Kyle Davidson said, that it doesn’t concern a teammate… or a teammate’s family.
It is obvious that the more time passes, the more questions arise. The Hawks GM may have spoken regarding unacceptable behavior in a work environment from Perry, but we don’t know exactly what he did. He mightn’t really say more.
You know like me that the less we know, the more we want to know.
According to Emily Kaplan, who covers the NHL for ESPN, it was because of an incident with someone employed by the Blackhawks before a game in Columbus last week that Perry was in the trouble.

And no, Connor Bedard’s mother is not on the Blackhawks payroll, for those who want to be kidding.
But OK. All this to say that at the moment, the situation is quite serious and that the Hawks are not laughing. You can feel it when you see the way GM Kyle Davidson spoke to the media.
The club, which was in hot water over the Kyle Beach issue in the past, clearly wants to move away from the controversy in 2023. This is undoubtedly why Perry, whose career is surely over, was cut quickly.
And this, even if in the Hawks locker room, we still seem to defend him – to a certain extent.
Seth Jones on Corey Perry: “He’s a brother and we care regarding everyone in this room. We don’t have any details of what happened, but I know the organization wants to keep a (level of) conduct here, and a place where we hold each other to a standard. I guess that was broken.”

But don’t forget that to terminate a player’s contract so quickly like this, it must be justified. Otherwise, the Hawks would look like they are doing things wrong, which is not desirable.
And according to what Jimmy Murphy reports, it was due to an Ime Udoka-style situation that the Blackhawks veteran was fired by his club.
Hearing it’s similar to what happened with Udoka and Celtics

What you need to know is that Ukoda was the coach of the Boston Celtics (NBA) until 2022. He was suspended by his club for allegedly using inappropriate language with a Celtics employee. (while he was in a position of authority) before entering into a relationship with her.
He ultimately lost his job… before bouncing elsewhere.
Initially, we might think that the relationship was mutual, but ultimately, according to the words of the Celtics employee, we understand that that is not necessarily how it happened.
Does this also apply to Perry? We don’t know, obviously.
As Renaud Lavoie mentioned this morning at BPM Sports, we will know more if charges are filed one day. But otherwise? We may think that the bottom of the story will never really be known.
Remember that Corey Perry’s name might perhaps be circulated when it comes to the Hall of Fame, but that all this might throw a cold shower on his potential candidacy.
Just playing in the NHL once more might be impossible. After all, the one who was brought to Chicago for his leadership would have violated the standards of his contract and the internal policies of the team to promote a safe and professional work environment… and that leaves its mark.
Let’s also remember that the former Canadian would have been named captain of CH if he had chosen to stay in town instead of leaving for Tampa Bay in 2021.
