The list that was formed with the express support of the elected mayor Walter Cortés to compete in the CEB suffered the challenge of its main candidatesin a decision that they consider at odds “with the cooperative values of participation and plurality.”
The candidate for first councilor for the Blue list, Martín Domínguez, is also a direct collaborator of Cortés and is his main emissary in the transition with the outgoing mayor Gustavo Gennuso. The CEB Electoral Board challenged it due to the lack of a signature that prevented him from correcting. Other members of the list were removed because of their membership in the trade union.
“They do not want us to enter the Cooperative and resort to illegal mechanisms”, Domínguez denounced today. Although Cortés was not present, Domínguez assured that the elected mayor “understands that participation must be free and democratic, as in any cooperative in the country.”
The representatives and representatives of the Blue list held a joint press conference today with those of the Magenta list, which suffered a similar thinning in its candidacies. The two, together with the Red list, presented an appeal for protection to request the constitution of a new electoral board and the suspension of the elections called for next Saturday. The decision depends on the Civil Judge Santiago Morán.
The representative of the Magenta list, Sonia Gutkin, said that the electoral process “was flawed from the beginning” because the Council of Administration, dominated by the White list, “hidden” the election date until the last minute and prevented those associated with debt from regularizing their situation, to be able to vote. That public call to catch up was for years a common pre-election practice, which did not exist this time. According to Gutkin, “there are hundreds” of those who will lose the right to choose due to this situation.
He said that 25% of the candidacies for councilors, trustees and delegates of the three opposition lists were blocked, in a number that also has no record. He highlighted that many of the candidates who were disqualified by the electoral board “they were already directors before”, without any objection.
The first candidate for councilor for the Magenta list and current president of the Meilpal neighborhood council, Hugo Orsili, also participated in the dialogue with the press, who was challenged for having publicly warned regarding a sewage discharge into the lake, which was the responsibility of the CEB. This precedent would put him at fault because a clause in the Statute prevents anyone who has a conflict or “an abnormal relationship” with the cooperative from running for office.
“For taking care of the environment and for caring regarding the neighborhood they challenge me. They don’t care regarding the people,” the resident complained. Also dropped, by decision of the Electoral Board, were the candidacies of José Pincheira and Arnaldo Arrúa, who are currently trustees and have just criminally reported the falsification of their signatures in the last balance sheet.
The candidate for advisor for the Azul – also disqualified – Luciano Pilquimán precisely said that “the underlying discussion is the 2022/2023 balance”, on which several objections weigh and which must be evaluated by the future body of delegates.
