The footage reveals that males grab females from the back and move their erect penises around the females’ caudal membranes, searching for the vulva. Despite the lack of penetration, sperm are believed to successfully reach the vagina, as indicated by the wet fur on the bellies of females following mating. This mating method, lasting from less than an hour to more than 12 hours, marks a significant departure from the typical mammalian reproductive strategy.
