Five people died and eight others were injured, as a result of the first rains of the season, accompanied by atmospheric discharges, which hit Huíla in the last seven days, revealed yesterday the acting spokesperson for the Civil Protection and Fire Service (SPCB) of Huíla, Francisco Matias
The SPCB official explained that in total, from the 15th to the 21st of this month, 45 incidents were recorded, with 13 victims aged between seven and 35 years old, whose incidence locations are the municipalities of Caluquembe and Lubango.
He highlighted that four deaths due to atmospheric discharge in residences, on public roads and in the pasture field, occurred in the municipality of Caluquembe, more precisely in the towns of Virgínia, Calanda and Valódia. The other victim died in Lubango, as a result of the collapse of the wall of a residence, being a minor under seven years of age.
In the same period, 19 homes were left without roofs and another seven saw their walls collapse. There was also the destruction of six stalls in informal markets and two homes were flooded, in the municipalities of Lubango and Caluquembe.
Francisco Matias appealed to families who still live in risky places, such as near ravines and open fields, as they are areas where lightning strikes occur, to abandon these spaces, to prevent worse evils.
