Scott Darling speaks out on the NHL’s relief program: A Comedian’s Story

2023-11-28 21:16:00

Scott Darling didn’t have a long NHL career. He played five seasons and had the opportunity to play 126 games in the Bettman circuit, and he decided to retire at the start of the 2020-2021 season.

Note also that today, the former NHL goalie is a comedian.

But you’re probably wondering why I’m telling you regarding Scott Darling on this hot Tuesday in November. In fact, the former Hawks and Hurricanes were passing through au podcast « What Chaos! » hosted by DJ Bean and Pete Blackburn and he poured his heart out regarding the NHL’s relief program.

F*ck them! […] I’ve told players to never ask for help from the program. They are monsters. –Scott Darling

Whoa.

Darling struggled with substance abuse issues during his career and resorted to the NHL’s aid program.

He says it was like being in prison, in the sense that he felt controlled by the league.

The former guard also says the problem is that the people running the program don’t want to help.

If you don’t trust the people who are supposed to help you, why would you ask for help? –Scott Darrling

And you can sense in his words that he was really emotional when talking regarding this situation.

Scott Darling even advises players to seek the necessary support elsewhere because they are assured.

It’s unclear what exactly happened to Darling when he applied to the program, but to hear him talk, he never received the support he needed. And if that’s indeed the case, that’s a big problem. It goes a long way, all that.

This is (another) dark cloud that is hovering over the head of the NHL, and it is once once more the image of the league that is taking a hit.

A lot of

– Devon Levi is sent back to the American League.
